2018 Bylaw Proposal

Please consider this your 30 days notice of the ALA AGM to be held November 12, 2017

A proposed fee increase of $3.00 will be voted on as well as the revised bylaws. Due to changes in the ALA Bylaws to comply with Alberta Gaming, the Teams are now the Voting Member to the ALA.

This means the HEAD coach of a team is to attend the ALA AGM and vote OR proxy their vote.

ALA Bylaw 1.05 Definitions - 

42) “Voting Member” means any amateur lacrosse team within the boundaries of the ALA.


A majority (51%) of the Members in good standing and present in person or via Proxy vote shall form a quorum at the Annual Meeting or Special Meeting.

In the event that a majority of the Members are not present within one (1) hour of the hour given in the Notice of the said meeting, the chairperson of the meeting

shall adjourn the meeting to date and time not less than twenty-one (21) days from the date of the original meeting. The Vice President of Administration via the

ALA Office shall give seven (7) days written notice to the Members of the date and place to which the meeting has been adjourned.

A quorum for the adjourned meeting shall be one less than a majority.


No member of the Executive Committee shall be entitled to send a person to represent them or vote on their behalf at a meeting of the Executive or the Board of Directors.

Any other Director, shall be entitled to appoint, in writing, a person to attend a meeting of the Board of Directors to represent him/her and cast a vote on his/her behalf

provided that such representative shall be a member of the Board of the Local Governing Body or the ALRA.

ALL Members must be in Good Standing

Bylaw 1.05 - Definition (27) Member in Good Standing” shall mean a Member who is not in arrears in any payments owing to the ALA or the CLA or whose rights have not been suspended

The ALA Strongly suggests the proxy form be used to proxy the team vote to the Club President.

Positions up for election are - ALA VP of Administration, VP of Organizational Development and VP of Technical Development.

Greg Hartzler (VP Admin), Kim Natt (VP Org), and Dane Dobbie (VP Tech) have agreed to let their name stand.

Please submit names of any interested candidates to the ALA office.


ALA AGM Guest Speaker - Thomas Hall

Thomas Hall represented Canada in the sport of sprint canoeing for almost 20 years. During that time, he won numerous nationals and international medals in singles and team boats at the Pan American Games, junior and senior world championships and numerous world cups. His paddling career culminated with a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. 

He retired from paddling in 2012 to work in journalism. Thomas is a national digital award nominated writer with work featured in The WalrusCanadian GeographicCanadian Geographic TravelThe Toronto StarThe Ottawa CitizenNational Post and the Postmedia chain and moreHe has also been a host or play-by-play commentator on CBCTSN and Sportsnet

He continues to write but has just finished a one year contract as the Executive Director of AthletesCAN, the Association of Canada's national team athletes. 



 The ALA, ALRA, AFLA, and RMLL will be holding their 2017 Development Weekend and 2017 AGM  November 10-12, 2017.

This meeting will be held at the Banff Center, Banff Alberta.

Tentative Schedule - 

Friday - AFLA AGM, ALA BOD Meeting, RMLL Meeting, ALA Social 

Saturday - Development Meetings, ALA Banquet

The Block Booking of Rooms is on hold until October 16, 2017

Triple and  quadruple accommodation is available at an additional cost of $20.00 per person per night. There will be no additional charge for children up to the age of 14 who share with their parent or guardian.
