Get ready for fast-paced fun with Roughnecks & ALA Lacrosse Literacy! Our program introduces students of all skill levels to the basics of lacrosse with fun, engaging activities that are perfect for every age and ability.
Not only will students learn how to pass, catch, and score, but they’ll also develop important physical skills like running, jumping, and throwing—skills that help in any sport. Lacrosse Literacy is more than just a game; it’s about building teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play, helping students grow both on and off the field.
Whether you’re new to lacrosse or looking to improve, this program is a great way to have fun, make new friends, and sharpen your skills. Get ready to move, compete, and experience the thrill of lacrosse!
Roughnecks & ALA Lacrosse Literacy is designed to help students build strong movement skills through exciting and interactive drills. As they practice dodging, shooting, passing, catching, and controlling ground balls, they’ll also improve their hand-eye coordination, boosting their athletic abilities.
Following the Long-Term Athlete Development plan, the program creates an environment where students can thrive. They’ll develop confidence, cooperation, and leadership, all while having fun with teammates. It’s about more than just playing a sport—it’s about growing and learning together.

In 2024, the Alberta Lacrosse Association teamed up with the Calgary Roughnecks to bring Roughnecks Lacrosse Literacy to remote and underprivileged communities across Alberta. This partnership is all about sharing the excitement of lacrosse with students who’ve had little to no exposure to the game. It’s not just about learning a sport—it’s about celebrating lacrosse’s Canadian roots, breaking down barriers, and inspiring a new generation of players.
Partnership Announcement
Every participant will receive a voucher for tickets to a Roughnecks game during the 2024-2025 season—a chance to see the pros in action and be inspired by the very sport they’re learning!
Let’s grow the game together and make lacrosse a part of every community!
