Join Our Board as Director of Administration
Are you passionate about driving the growth and success of lacrosse in Alberta?
The Alberta Lacrosse Association (ALA) is seeking a committed volunteer to serve as Director of Administration on our Board of Directors. We are dedicated to building a diverse board that reflects the communities we serve.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Finance - Budgeting, auditing, and fiscal oversight.
- Human Resources - Employment law, industrial relations, equity, and relationship building.
- Governance - Ensuring the Discipline and Appeals Committee fulfills its mandate.
- Regulation of Sport and Non-Profit Organizations - Compliance, regulations, and bylaws.
About the Board
Our Board of Directors adheres to a strong moral compass and is responsible for overseeing the activities of the Association and its members in line with the ALA’s mission and strategic goals.
Core responsibilities include:
- Annual budget approval and monitoring.
- Reviewing and updating policies and programs that align with the association's goals.
- Setting the strategic direction of the association.
Key Responsibilities of a Board Member
- Attend all Board and Executive meetings (approximately 12 per year).
- Participate in person at scheduled meetings where applicable.
- Chair or serve on a Board committee.
- Oversee the accurate recording and distribution of meeting minutes promptly.
- Review materials before meetings.
- Communicate effectively with fellow Directors, the Board, and staff.
Skills & Experience
- Strong decision-making abilities underpinned by integrity.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Effective problem-solving within financial and time constraints.
- Proven ability to set priorities and achieve goals.
- Experience with non-profit boards is an asset.
Time Commitment
Board members commit approximately 5-10 hours monthly, including Board meetings, committee work, and events. The Board meets virtually semi-monthly, with in-person meetings for the Planning Meeting and ALA AGM. The Executive Committee meets semi-monthly in months with no Board meeting. Attendance at the Lacrosse Canada AGM may also assist the Director of Administration in their duties.
