Development Camps

The ALA Development Camp returned for its third year. This year's version featured a mix of U13 player and coach development, coupled with U11-U17 skill and goalie-specific development.

Coaches are encouraged to attend two U13 practices and two coaching sessions. Priority is placed on creating a fun, skills-based technical approach to coaching lacrosse in Alberta. Strategies and resources are provided to develop players according to LTAD priorities and in cooperation with the ALA Gap Analysis.

This year’s development camps were another great success. The ALA Technical Team, led by Jason Crook and Richard Lachlan, traveled across Alberta to deliver tailored day camps in collaboration with Local Governing Bodies (LGBs). Over five weekends, the team worked with 182 players, 44 goalies, and 56 coaches.

The Technical Team also hosted goalie camps in 4 of 5 LGBs. These camps featured goalie coaches Matt Hiebert and Jared Ferris, both premiere goalie coaches in Alberta, and focused on technical skill development for our goalies.

Camps were hosted in Calgary, Red Deer, Duchess, Lloydminster, and Edmonton. We look forward to continuing to provide development opportunities for players and coaches across the province.

Prairie Cup

The ALA is excited to gear up for the second year of the Prairie Cup, a premier tri-provincial tournament that brings together top talent from Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. This year, the event will be hosted by the Manitoba Lacrosse Association, providing another incredible opportunity for our athletes to compete at a high level and prepare for national competition.

Committed to the LTAD pathways, we are proud to support this regional tournament, which serves as a vital platform for player development. By fostering regional competition with multiple teams from Alberta, we are expanding opportunities for athletes across the province. This initiative strengthens both grassroots and high-performance programs, helping to grow the game and elevate the level of play at every stage of the lacrosse journey.

This inspired Jocelyn to become involved at the board level, contributing her expertise to help strengthen and support the lacrosse community. Athletics have always been a significant part of Jocelyn’s life. She was a competitive soccer player, while her parents were accomplished curlers, and her brother is a former Olympian.
