Regulation Updates

Sep. 27, 2023

The ALA recently held its annual Planning Meeting in Calgary. It was a weekend for the Board to connect in-person, evaluate the season, and adjust for next season.

Here are updates from the Board of Directors 2023 September Planning Meeting:

Team Alberta and Nationals

The Team Alberta program will now be guided by a Team Alberta Committee whose role is to design and assist with the implementation of the program for the ALA. It will be made up of:

  • ALA Director of High Performance
  • ALA Director of Development
  • ALA Director of Administration
  • President, RMLL
  • President, AFLA
  • President - Large LGB
  • President - Small LGB
  • ALA Staff (ex-officios)

In continuing to support the recommendations of the LC LTAD, Alberta will be sending the following teams to Minor Nationals in 2024:

  • U17 male and female box
  • U22 female box
  • U19 women’s field
  • U17 men’s field
  • U19 men’s field

As one of the founding provinces, and further supporting the LC LTAD, we will also send the following teams to the Prairie Cup, a new regional championship starting in 2024:

  • Two of each U13 male and female box
  • Two of each U15 male and female box

As well as two U15 women’s field teams to the U15 Festival held in conjunction with the Jenny Kyle Cup.

It is Alberta’s turn in the rotation to host the Alumni and First Nations Cups (men's U17 and U19 field) in 2024. The Board has voted in favor and will be submitting a bid.

Xtreme Threads will remain as the Team Alberta and ALA apparel provider through 2026.

Tournaments

Each LGB will be approved one large tournament in 2024. Other tournaments must be only two consecutive divisions to be approved. For example, U11 and U13 or U15 and U17. Only one tournament per weekend, per division pairings, outside of the large tournaments, will be approved. As in previous years, the Canada Day tournament will be only tournament to offer a U17-A division.

Financial Policy Update

Mileage reimbursement rate is now set at the lesser of $0.62 per kilometre or the current CRA mileage rate and requires approval from the Director of Administration (or designate). Mileage will only be provided for travel exceeding 50km roundtrip.

Executive of the ALA may now expense reasonable hospitality expenses.

Affiliations

In Minor teams may now affiliate to a maximum of 18 players and 2 goalies. Any affiliate goaltenders must be dressed as goaltenders, on the bench, and will only be eligible to participate as a goaltender during Provincials.  Teams may carry a maximum of two (2) goalies.  All affiliates must be drawn from the same club and in a lower division or lower tiered team in the applicable division competing. U9 teams are permitted to affiliate first year aged U9 players.

Minor Box Floor Times

Minor box floor times will now reflect those recommended in the LC LTAD.
