July Competitions Results and Upcoming Events in August

Minor Box Lacrosse Provincials were held at the Calgary Soccer Centre on July 11-13. It was a great weekend of lacrosse featuring 2 overtime games in the medal rounds. Thanks to all the coaches, managers, volunteers, organizers and parents who made it a great ending to a great season for all of these players. Final medal winners are below.

Major Box Provincials

Major Box Lacrosse Provincials are underway with the Major Female Lacrosse Champion Silvertips and Senior C Champion Airdrie Mohawks already being crowned. Check out the RMLL website for more information on schedules for these events and get out and support your local players going for gold in August!

Prairie Cup

The Prairie Cup was held in Brandon Manitoba on July 18 to 20. After some uncertainty for teams around their accommodations due to wildfire evacuations, the teams settled in for a great weekend of lacrosse. The Alberta representatives had strong showings at all age groups and brought home 3 gold medals. This was the first time box lacrosse was played at the Keystone Centre in Brandon, Manitoba and Alberta players were proud to be a part of showcasing our great game.

Team Alberta

The U19 Team Alberta Field Lacrosse team just finished a great weekend in Coquitlam bringing home 4th place after a tough loss in the bronze medal game to First Nations. The other Team Alberta teams are nearing their departure for Canada Summer Games and Minor Box Nationals and Field Nationals. Ekke Loo Memorial Award

James McFall Award

The James McFall Trophy is the Alberta Lacrosse Association’s most prestigious award, honouring a volunteer who has made a significant impact on lacrosse in Alberta. Donated by Dominion Construction Ltd., it was established in memory of James McFall.

Kim Smyth: Dedicated Community Volunteer

Kim Smyth has been a dedicated member of the Central Alberta Lacrosse League (CALL) community for over 20 years, contributing in countless ways as a parent, coach, administrator, and official. Throughout her time with CALL, Kim has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the growth of lacrosse at both the grassroots and competitive levels.

As a passionate advocate for youth sport, Kim regularly volunteers her time to visit schools and community programs across the CALL region. With her trademark enthusiasm—and a plate of homemade cookies in hand—she brings the rich history and honour of The Creator’s Game to life for students of all ages.

Beyond the rink, Kim is recognized as a respected community leader whose volunteerism and mentorship have inspired countless young athletes, families, and fellow volunteers. Her contributions have not only helped strengthen the sport of lacrosse in Central Alberta but also fostered a broader sense of community connection and pride.
